Movies and music have always been inseparable. And, what better place to see the symbiosis than in the Walt Disney films? Indeed, over the years, films and cartoons from the Disney stable have relied a great deal on music. These, in turn, have been inspired by Broadway traditions. Today, this music is an integral part of our lives and of musical repertoires, worldwide.
Louis `Satchmo` Armstrong is often regarded among jazz`s greatest trumpeters. With his wide smile, twinkling voice and ready humour, he was also one of the great entertainers of his era. His voice was a deep boom, flecked with gravel and his trumpet, a soaring musical extension of his vibrant voice. Not surprising then that Satchmo moved beyond the concert stage to the world of movie studios. His appearances in films like `Hello Dolly` and `High Society` are memorable even today.
Satchmo`s voice and trumpet. Songs from Disney movies. Put both together and you have a combination that spells sheer magic. Tapping into Satchmo`s charisma and musical talent, Walt Disney asked him to showcase tunes from their films. The corollary is `Disney songs the Satchmo way`.
Armstrong goes through the childhood standards like `The Bare Necessities` from Kipling`s `The Jungle Book`, (a catchy, toe tapping number sung by Baloo the Bear) `Chim Chim Cheee` from the Julie Andrews starrer `Mary Poppins` and `When You Wish Upon A Star` from `Pinocchio`.
Rating: This is a marvellous little gem.. There`s something about Satchmo that makes you want to smile and break out into a song. A great audio picker- upper for those days when you`re nostalgic or just plain blue.
