'The Sound of Music.' By now there must be very few people left in the globe who haven't seen this musical. The movie is a benchmark in the cinematic history of Hollywood. Which of us haven't seen it as a young girl and expressed a desire to be a novice nun, just like Maria (Julie Andrews)?
The defining quality of this film is the music by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Songs like 'Edelweiss', 'My Favourite things', 'Do re me', ' The hills are alive with the 'sound of music' and 'Sixteen, going on seventeen' are a part of our musical vocabulary. The movie is a true life story about Baron Von Trapp, who fled the Nazi rule with his family of 7 kids. Christopher Plummer is outstanding as the widowed Baron von Trapp who falls in love with the sprightly Maria.
An immensely romantic movie with the lush Austrian countryside captured in excellent cinematography, some good old fashioned family values, strong emotions, patriotism; this movie has it all. A must see for the entire family.
