India's first Imax movie theatre opened in Mumbai on March 25.

Imax technology is based on a film frame 10 times bigger than a conventional 35mm frame. This gives images a much sharper resolution and allows movies to be shown on screens so big they extend beyond the audience's field of vision. The format uses a fish eye lens to project images with a 180 degree sweep on a dome.

India's first Imax complex with a 520-seat theatre with the world's largest dome is a collaborative effort of the Indian motion picture processing firm, Adlabs Films and Imax Corporation.

Located in Mumbai, the films lined up for screening include 'Everest' and 'Mysteries of Egypt.'
