Kamal Haasan's bi- lingual saga 'Hey Ram' might have come a box office cropper, but it is drawing critical acclaim both at home and abroad. The movie, which won three national awards this year, is now doing the rounds of the international film circuit.
It will be the official Indian entry at the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival, which runs September 7th to 16th. The Toronto film Festival was recently rated the number one festival in the world according to a survey published in The Los Angeles Times.
'Hey Ram' will also be screened on the concluding day at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland on August 12th.
'Hey Ram' is set in pre- partition India. It traces the lives, acts and motivations of a motley assortment of characters against the backdrop of the communal frenzy that gripped the nation before Independence. The movie was scripted and directed by Kamal Haasan. He also acts in the movie in the pivotal role of the protagonist Saket Ram who goes to Delhi to assassinate Mahatma Gandhi. The movie also stars Hema Malini, Girish Karnad, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Vasundhara Das and Naseeruddin Shah as Mahatma Gandhi.
