He's the thinking woman's dream date. But this one is too busy acting, writing, directing, and playing rugby (sigh) to spare much time for a social life.....
You've seen him all over the place. On television in regrettable serials like 'Mouthful of Sky', on style programmes, on travel shows, in movies, on the rugby field, on stage. Now this method actor is moving behind the scenes with his directorial debut titled, "Everybody Says I'm Fine". Presenting the life and times of....
Bombay Boy
Rahul Bose is the quintessential Bombay Boy. After a short stint in advertising (he was the youngest creative director of an ad agency in India aged all of 24!), he moved to television and stage. His television shows were compote of hits (a style show on BBC, a travel show on Star Plus) and misses ('A Mouthful of Sky' on Star Plus). Ever restless, Bose moved on to films.
After starring in a slew of critically successful, off beat films like Dev Benegals 'English August and 'Split Wide Open', Govind Nihalani's 'Thakshak', Timeri Murari's 'Daayra', it was time to move again.
Director No.1
Bose is now being noticed on the international stage. Bose has signed on with talent agency William Morris. The agency will be representing Bose as a writer, actor and possibly director in Hollywood. Bose is certainly in good hands since Morris' clientele includes Hollywood bigwigs Martin Scorcese and Tom Cruise!
So what is Bose's directorial venture about? "Everybody Says I'm Fine" (which Bose also wrote) is apparently a sensitive look at the foibles and peccadilloes of high society. The central character (Rehan Engineer) provides the outsiders perspective on a cross-section of these lost souls. His is the unvarnished look at the hypocrisies and social pressures that afflict the haute monde set. The movie has a glittering star cast including Anahita Oberoi, Boman Irani, Rehan Engineer and Bose himself.
The film will be produced by Vivek Vaswani's Pinnacle Entertainment. Twentieth Century Fox has snapped up the rights for worldwide distribution of the film. In a coup of sorts, tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Husain will be collaborating with Carlos Santana on the music of this project.
'Everybody Says I'm Fine' is expected to be complete by March 2001.
