"But Mom I wanna see Shrek!!!"

Heard that lately? Well, we have roped in all the reasons why you should take your kids to watch the movie. It's a lovely, light tale told in digital imagery as to why it's okay to be just plain ol' you. The story starts off simple enough. When Shrek, the ornery ogre, has his residence encroached upon by fairy tale creatures, he would do just about anything to get them off his land. Including having an over exuberant donkey and a disillusioned princess along for the ride. His pesky guests include the three little pigs and Goldlilocks. Extremely irked, Shrek visits Lord Farquhaad who is the root of all his problems, for answers; but is served with the ultimatum of rescuing Farquhaad's bride-to-be, Princess Fiona, from the fire breathing, eyelash batting dragon or get cosy with his new neighbours. He sets out to rescue Princess Fiona, falls in love with her; and finally rescues her again from Farquhaad and her spell.

Shrek, though it pokes fun at fairy tales, is itself a fairy tale, wherein, it makes a valid point about Friendship and Love. It comprises an all star cast, and the humour, at times, sails over the kids heads, which makes it refreshingly enjoyable for parents too. Many wonderful reasons why your kids will love it - fairy-tale characters, awesome computer animation and a hilarious plot. Take your pick!

The second movie that is an absolute must is "Cats and Dogs".

Be prepared for this spoof, as it takes you to heights unimaginable. Professor Brody is a scientist who is out to find a cure for allergies to dogs. This is, of course, positively revolting to cats who have been fighting a secret battle with dogs for the past 5000 years. The film is driven by the fiendish Mr.Tinkles, a white Persian cat leading the forces of evil. The musical score would feel right at home in a Bond Movie. This backdrop is heightened when the humans make their presence felt on screen. The movie succeeds as a spoof of the spy genre and shows what can be achieved using computer-generated images, actual animals and animatronic puppets. The movie, after the first five minutes, makes you accept that the animals not only talk to one another when humans are not looking, but also use electronic scanning equipment to guard their owner's home. High tech indeed!

Nonetheless your kids would reward you with a huge bear hug and a popcorn smeared kiss for the excellent entertainment provided.
