A bad night for Jim Carrey.
The Golden Globe awards are seen as the pre cursors for the Oscar Awards. It did not spring any surprises-- most notably, Julia Roberts winning Best Actress for `Erin Brockovich`.

George Clooney won the best actor in a comedy film For "O Brother, Where art thou?" Clooney, who played an escaped chain-gang prisoner in the depression era South, denied Jim Carrey a third consecutive win in the category. "I think when you list the names of the actors in this category that you`ve got to figure I`m going to win this", Clooney deadpanned to the audience on Sunday night. Listing his competitors - John Cusack, Robert de Niro, Mel Gibson and Carrey - he cracked: "What have they done?" It was not a nice night to be Jim Carrey. His ex-girlfriend Renee Zellweger won the best comedy film actress for "Nurse Betty".
Benicio Del Toro won best supporting film actor for his role in the drug war drama "Traffic" and Kate Hudson won supporting film actress for "Almost Famous".
Al Pacino was named in advance as winner of the Cecil B De Mille award, which honours outstanding contributions to entertainment.
