Rowling's 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' has gone to Daniel Radcliffe. The 11-year-old Briton has appeared in the BBC's 'David Copperfield' and will be seen later this year in the John Boorman film 'The Tailor of Panama'. The choice of Radcliffe as the lead was made official on the film's website earlier this week. It puts to rest rumours that the lead would go either to Gabriel Thomson or Liam Aiken.

Ten-year-old Emma Watson, will play the studious Hermione and 11-year-old Rupert Grint, the red-headed Ron Weasley. Hermione and Weasley are Harry Potters best friends at Hogwarts, the school for magicians. Neither Watson nor Weasley has any major professional experience, but Warner Brothers Studio says both have acted in school plays.

The movie will be directed by Chris Columbus and produced by David Heyman.
