India's First Family of Percussionists never stop, do they? Now it's the turn of late tabla maestro Ustad Allarakha's youngest son, Taufiq Qureshi to come up with his musical offering- 'Rydhun'.
Rydhun
Rydhun is supposed to represent the synergy of 'rhythm' and 'dhun'.
'Rydhun' is a unique album bringing together the varied talents of the Allarakha clan including Taufiq and his brothers Ustad Zakir Hussain, Fazal Qureshi. Also featured are bigwigs like vocalist Shankar Mahadevan and Ranjit Barot.
'Rydhun' captures the natural rhythms of life including (get this!) the sound of a heartbeat.
Taufiq is a versatile musician. As an inheritor of his legendary father Ustad Allarakhas mantle, he has accompanied Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and Ustad Sultan Khan, on tabla. Besides being a tablachi, he is an equally accomplished percussionist who has dabbled with world percussion instruments from Japanese gongs to African Jimbes to Middle Eastern drums. He has also worked with the likes of Viku Vinayakaram, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Louis Banks in propagating fusion music.
Get ready for the rhythm divine.
- Taufiq, who plays with the band 'Surya' has plans to tour India promoting this album. Also in the pipeline is another album.
