Pedestrian music from the man who made one of the biggest musical hits of Hindi cinema with 'Dil To Pagal Hai'.'Pyaar Diwana Hota Hai' (OST) by Uttam SinghVeteran music composer Uttam Singh appears to have no new tricks up his sleeve. In this soundtrack he is back to depending on the well worn formula of synthesizer music. Uttam bhai, that is so totally passe! As a result, the music sounds terribly manufactured and soulless.
The mindless melody of the title track is rendered even more forgettable by the playback singing of Udit Narayan and Kavita Krishnamurthy. Both sound entirely dispirited and make no attempt to sound interested in the trite music.
Preethi Uttam does a good job on two songs. Her dulcet voice shines through in 'Deewana Dil'. In this song she is ably supported by Hariharan. Together, their buttery vocals skim over the languid, romantic ditty. Preethi Uttam also strikes the right chord with Sonu Nigam in the peppy 'Kya Dilli, kya Jalandhar.' Even though the song itself is nothing to write home about, both playback singers invest it with the necessary zing and youthful zest to lift it out of a musical morass. Unfortunately the interlude is all too short and the soundtrack dips back into triteness with 'Teri Aankhen bolti' (Alka Yagnik and Vinod Rathod).
Rating: Pretty dismal music. Uttam Singh makes true the adage, 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks'. Very mediocre music.
