The Second ComingThe Second Coming

Akshay Kumar has come a long way since the time when, as an insecure neophyte, he signed too many pictures. Such ill-advised moves did earn him a lot of money but did little good for the actor in him. A spate of high budget, badly made films followed and Akki's stock plumbed new depths. Of course, a string of highly publicised romances that soured didn't quite contribute to his dwindling fortunes.

Dogged Determination

Somehow, this good looking actor has persevered with dogged determination. And even if his detractors and nay-sayers may choose to differ, the film industry's consensus is that Akki has finally arrived. Learning from his past mistakes, he is cutting down on his assignments and restricting them to a well picked few. 'Dhadkan', 'Ajnabi', 'Rishta', are some of the eagerly awaited projects he has on hand.

Now, with his time and attention focused on a few films, Akshay Kumar is able to give his total concentration to his on-screen performances. This attitude has also allowed him time to enjoy his sporting activities. It's a happy chain; more time, more sport and Akki comes out looking all healthy, relaxed (and more drool-worthy than ever before!).

Success Beckons?

Nothing succeeds like success, they say. His recent films 'Hera Pheri', 'Jaanwaar' and 'Sangharsh' have fared well at the box office and have had the audience stand up and take note of his performances.

Such long awaited appreciation of his histrionic talent has made Akshay more cautious about the future films he is working on. A certain maturity has helped him realise that one does not have to be the central character in a film all the time. It is not the length that matters but how much of yourself you put into it.

Lady luck is fickle and has not been particularly kind to Akki. Many films into which he put his heart and soul bombed ('Aflatoon', 'International Khiladi'). The fault might not lie entirely with Akki. He acknowledges the fact that when he plays any role, he sticks very clearly to the director's interpretation of it.

A Ladies Man

Akki has the reputation- whether deserved or not- of being a Casanova. He has been linked with umpteen women from Pooja Bhatra and Raveena Tandon to Shilpa Shetty. To be fair to the man, no matter what the glossies dredge up for a prurient public, he has always maintained his dignity. The latest in his long line of romances appears to be Twinkle Khanna, though rumour mills have it that the two have parted ways. Akshay Kumar, in an oft used cliche, says that when he does get married, the whole world would know. And that will be the day many young (and old) female hearts will break.

With 'Dhadkan' opening with favourable reviews and with his career on the upswing, it's time for Akki's second coming.....
