Ever since television channels started to increase at a rapid rate, women have got more hooked to television than ever. With every commercial channel churning out daily soap operas the women of the family have a new reason to watch TV other than films. These soap operas mainly capture the evening prime time when students are busy studying and hence women especially mothers are free to do what they like. There is no better recreation for them than watching family soap operas.

Women are hooked to TV soaps because other than films on television they are not really addicted to any other thing shown on TV. Soaps are closer to films in a way that they present drama on screen that stretches longer than films. It becomes a daily source of entertainment for them. After a busy morning when they are getting the male members of the family ready for their jobs, or sending their kids to schools or colleges and managing their work be it household chores or professional work, TV soaps gives them an opportunity to relax and unwind. So relaxation would be the basic thing a woman would be looking forward to while sitting to watch a soap opera.
Most of the soap operas present family affairs on a more dramatic scale and because women are more closely attached to their families a family soap entertains them a lot.

The comedy, the romance, the melodrama, the conflicts and the music in the show entertains them since they add flavour to the soap to make that family soap larger than life. It is the same psychology that plays behind a child’s fascination for his favorite superhero. Something larger than life is always exciting to watch. Moreover a woman ecstatically looks forward to the heroine’s make-up and tries to follow the tips since fashion is something every woman worships. A fashion conscious girl or a woman would immediately comment with the heroine’s costume or her mascara or her blushes or her kohl and would pick up certain styling techniques and tips they find interesting.

The ad breaks are also something that women look forward to since product advertisements impress a woman much more than they impress a man. Again, women look forward to the conflicts more than anything. The rising action and how it is finally resolved to provide the soap with a happy ending is fascinating not only for a woman but anyone who likes commercial products. Soap with good story line and popular cast is more entertaining and crowd pleasing than a stagnant soap where the show has weak story line and the producer of the show did not roped in the characters as per the story. Entertainment lies in providing what is fascinating. Comedy is definitely more entertaining than art soaps, romance has been mankind’s soul and spirit since time immemorial, melodrama gives the women an excuse to shed tears and sympathize and music is always welcome.

A woman watch TV soap mostly to unwind more than anything else but since they provide much more than just a reason to unwind it is something she loves and appreciates.
