> Dance your way to fitness

More and more people are turning towards dance as a means of fitness, today. It works as well as a traditional workout and its far more fun. More importantly it offers the benefit of meeting other people and establish new ties that can contribute to self- esteem and a positive outlook.
Experts recommend dancing as an excellent alternative to a fitness routine as it incorporates all the necessary moves of any fitness regimen: stretching, resistance training and aerobics.
It is a holistic exercise involving not just your body but also your mind and soul. Shaking your legs for a bit might also improve your mood and lift your spirits.
Here are some additional benefits of a dance fitness routine:
- Dancing can be as effective as walking, swimming or bicycling. Half an hour of dancing will allow you to lose about 400 calories. Dancing for about half an hour equals walking for about 2 kilometres.
- Regular exercise can even protect you against cholesterol and control blood pressure levels. About an hour of dancing about three to four times a week, if carried on over a long period can give you substantial cardiovascular benefits.
- Dance may be an effective way to keep up a regular exercise routine since for you to continue with any fitness regime you must enjoy it and letting yourself go in this manner will keep your interest alive. GA_googleFillSlot("leaderboard");
- The movements of many dances strengthen the weight bearing bones and can help to prevent or slow down loss of bones in older women.
- Exercise may be an excellent alternative to other high intensity exercises for people recovering from surgery or other illnesses.
