Fast food has taken over our lives in a big way. Once meticulous, housewives find it easier these days to pick up the phone and order a pizza to tide over kids' demands. This is fine if one confines it to about once a month, but make it a regular habit and you are in for big trouble. Obesity which is one of the leading causes of ill health, is bound to creep in and begin its destructive work. So how does one combat this evil?

  • Try and eat as much natural, non processed food as possible. As the person in charge of the family's nutrition, see to it that the family eats sufficient quantities of minerals and vitamins which are best found in natural foods. This means also no vegetable fat as frying generally robs food of most of its natural nutrients. Unrefined cereals like brown rice or non processed grains and lentils will give your body enough healthy carbs. Eating healthy food will reverse the slowdown of metabolism leading to obesity that might have set in with eating refined or packaged ready to eat foods.

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables are nature's gifts to man. Full of phyto nutrients they are loaded with good health and can have no substitute. Organically grown fruits and vegetables are slowly gaining in popularity though they are a little more expensive than the ordinary varieties. The very fact that no pesticides are used in organic farming means that there is no intake of poisonous chemicals that rob the produce of all its natural goodness.
