Working Woman's Plight - Balancing Work Time and Play Time

Unlike couple of decades earlier, men used to work while women stayed home to tend to children and in-laws, cook, wash and perform other household chores. Today, the scenario has drastically changed as a majority of women are employed in various organizations and institutions. Moreover, working women are constantly challenged by the rising demands of full-time employment because they still have to tend to their families, cook, wash and carry out other tasks as well.

For most career-oriented women, the day`s work doesn`t end with the office hours – they bring some of it home as well due to their responsibilities and commitments. Most women juggle many assignments at work such as managing teams, meeting schedules and business trips with household responsibilities. On an average, a professional woman works about 45 hours each week which makes it very difficult for them to maintain work and life balance.

Balancing work time and play time does not necessarily mean one has to fix a certain number of hours each day for both official and domestic responsibilities. But it is about setting one`s priorities straight. Establishing and maintaining a balance is only possible if the woman knows what`s really important to her.

One should always keep in mind that her priorities continue to change over time. The priority of a woman who has just set her foot into the corporate world is to get recognition at the workplace. At this point of her career, she knows what is required to be appreciated for her work and will be professional about setting priorities. On the other hand, a woman who has been successfully working for about eight years and has made a mark in the workplace has totally different priorities amongst which domestic responsibilities may top the list.

The best way to keep work and play time balanced is to use resources so as to make life much easier. No woman is capable of doing all the household chores by herself after spending the entire day at the office. So, it`s best to outsource most of the work – find a maid for cleaning, washing and keeping the home in a good shape, leave kids at a reliable day care center, get hold of a good dry-cleaner who picks up and drops off clothes, use Internet to shop conveniently and whole lot more.

One should make use of her financial resources to make living simpler. If someone isn`t financially strong, she should ask her husband, in-laws or other family members to give her a helping hand. While keeping everything balanced, women often overlook the most important aspect of their lives – their health. One should always be mindful of her health and get good night`s sleep, eat nutritious food, exercise daily and avoid stress as much as possible.
