"Choodas" or the bangles are given in significant ceremony at the time of marriage.
The Chooda ceremony is usually held during the morning of the wedding. The priest performs the puja and the maternal uncles of a Punjabi bride give her a set of choodas or bangles after washing them in milk. Nowadays a Punjabi bride also wears seven or nine bangles. According to the tradition the bride should wear the chooda for at least one year of her marriage. Nowadays a Punjabi bride wears the chooda for only a month.

According to the custom at the time of departure of the doli, the bride is asked to hit the kaleeras on the head of one of the sister or cousins who stand to bid her farewell.
