The Punjabis are known for their grand weddings. They are known to have a rich culture of their own. The Punjabi wedding is a joyful and and extravagant affair. There are many colorful customs and rituals in a Punjabi wedding and this is the time which brings together the relatives and friends adds to the excitement and merry making. A Punjabi bride usually adorns a gorgeous marriage trousseau. She is helped in her dressing by her mother,sisters, female relatives and friends. Nowadays a Punjabi bride may wear anything from sari, salwar suit to lehenga in traditional colors like red, orange or magenta. The salwar kameez is the most popular outfit for a Punjabi Bride. Usually a patiala style of salwar kameez is worn by a Punjabi bride. This outfit is extremely comfortable and look very elegant on an Indian Bride. The marriage wardrobe is designed with unique embellishment using different kinds of embroideries,motifs, block print, beads,Sequins, zardosi, dabka, tilla work, ghara work, cut work and much more. The marriage dress of a bride is made of different fabrications like georgettes, raw silks,Satin, Lawns, Organza, Katan Silk and others. Usually a Punjabi bride goes for a heavy work Sari, designer bridal Lehanga with phulkari embroidery or a heavy embroidery salwar kameez.

The ornaments of a Punjabi Bride consist of ivory bangles which usually look like glass. It is an important accessory for brides. A Punjabi bride traditionally wears a slender ivory choodas or bangles in white and dark red color. These bangles usually given to a Punjabi bride in the multiples of four. "Choodas" or the bangles are given in significant ceremony at the time of marriage.

The Chooda ceremony is usually held during the morning of the wedding. The priest performs the puja and the maternal uncles of a Punjabi bride give her a set of choodas or bangles after washing them in milk. Nowadays a Punjabi bride also wears seven or nine bangles. According to the tradition the bride should wear the chooda for at least one year of her marriage. Nowadays a Punjabi bride wears the chooda for only a month.

The bangles range according to the size of the forearm and the wrist so that the set fits in the hands of the bride neatly. For the mother and father of bride the maternal uncle brings some gifts. To wish her with all blessings,the sisters, sister-in-law and friends tie kaleeras which are made of silver or gold plated dangling bangles worn by a Punjabi Bride.

According to the custom at the time of departure of the doli, the bride is asked to hit the kaleeras on the head of one of the sister or cousins who stand to bid her farewell. It is said that if those danglers from the bride hands fall on any of her sister she will be next one to get married. So Punjabi bride dresses up with bright color dress and matching jewelry. Her shoes are also matching according to her wardrobe with beautiful embellishments and beads. Everyone in her family see to it that she looks the best on her D-day.
