About the movie Aashayein
Aashayein is about a compulsive gambler named Rahul Singh played by John Abraham who dreams to win a lot of money one day. His dream comes true. One fine day, good luck smiles on him and he gets rich. However, on that very day he finds out he has cancer.
The story is how Rahul deals with his disease and how he discovers the meaning of life. The film was shot in two places- Pondicherry and Hyderabad.
About the director- Nagesh Kukunoor
Nagesh Kukunoor was born on 30th March, 1967 in Hyderabad. He did his schooling in Hyderabad. In the year 1988 he went to Atlanta to study B. Tech in Chemical Engineering. After completing his B Tech from Osmania University and MS from Georgia Institute of Technology he came back to India in 1997 to make movies for the Indian market. While he was in Atlanta he took lessons in Warehouse Actor's Theater. In 1995 he made a film called ' One culture at a time'. He started his film career in India with the movie ' Hyderabad Blues'. He produced, directed and acted in the film. The movie was shot in only 17 days within a small budget of Rs 1.7 million. His other films include Rockford, Bollywood Calling, Teen Deewarein, Iqbal and Dor. 'Hyderabad Blues' won the best film audience award at the Rhode Island Film Festival, while Teen Deewarein won the 2003 Filmfare for the best story.
