Vijay in Deewar goes against stereotype social trends which are seen as prerequisites for being a perfect citizen.He points out the pretensions of a society that fails to protect his honest father against the cruelties of the oppressors. Even as a young boy, he acts selflessly by giving up his education so that his elder brother Ravi can pursue it. He grows up with the haunting awareness of the unjust humiliation his father got. Life taught him to speak and fight for one's own rights and he precisely did the same thing. The film ends with Vijay getting killed in an encounter with his police officer brother Ravi and Ravi being honored with a police gallantry award.
