Sholay, the great Indian movie produced by G.P. Sippy and released in 1975, portrayed the story of a peaceful village where a group of bandits inflicted intense torment on the villagers in the name of raising money for peacekeeping. Directed by Ramesh Sippy with melodious hits composed by the all time famous music director R.D. Burman was an instant box office hit. The powerful acting of eminent talents like Sanjeev Kumar as Thakur, Amitabh Bachchan as Jai and Dharmendar as Veeru in Sholay enthralled a million of audiences nation wide. The comedy reached its own level of perfection in the scene, where dead drunk Veeru, facing a refusal for marrying Basanti, stood on a high water tank, pretending to commit suicide. Sholay was an overall fascinating performance and the character of Veeru played by the great actor Dharmendar impressed the audience, thereby becoming one of the most popular character icons of all times.
