Mr. India is a science fiction film directed which was released in the year 1987. The film was directed by Shekhar Kapur. Some of the important characters of the film includes Mr. India, Seema Sohni and Mogambo. The role of Mogambo in Mr. India was played by Amresh Puri. Animal Kapoor and Sridevi played the roles of Mr. India and Seema respectively. Mogambo in Mr. India is the villian and the character has been portrayed in an excellent way by Amreesh Puri. The character of Mogambo in Mr. India was loosely based on Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Amreesh Puri was cast in the role of Mr Mogambo mainly because he received the international media attention as he portrayed the role of Mola Ram in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The movie helped Amrish Puri to gain fame because of his convincing performance as an evil megalomaniac. Lot of such roles followed after this for Amreesh Puri.
The story of Mr. India is quite interesting and was a new concept in India during that time. Arun Verma/Mr. India (Anil Kapoor) is a street walking violinist who runs an orphanage. In order to make bring up the children in a better way, he rents a house overlooking the beach. As he is unable to pay the rent, he rents a part of the house to Seema (Sridevi) who is a journalist. As the story proceeds, the character of Mogambo in Mr. India is introduced.
Mogambo in Mr. India lives in an island known as Mogambo and it has been modelled after the island of Dr. No. Here he has developed a self sustained colony and has advanced weapons and laboratory to build high tech device. His main aim was to destroy all the major cities of India. The dialogues like "Hail Mogambo" and "Mogambo khus hua" made this character unforgettable in the history of bollywood.
The story proceeds and we find that Mogambo in Mr. India has been defeated a number of times by "Mr. India". This Mr. India is no one else but Arun Verma. He had suddenly discovered a device which his father has made and it makes people invisible. Mogambo is enraged due to this and wants to get hold of that device.
Mogambo activates four gigantic missiles to destroy India and to kill Arun. Arun fights with him and deactivates the launch of the missiles. This leads to the destruction of the island of Mogambo and Mogambo dies while uttering the phrase "Hail Mogambo".
