Usha Mangeshkar is one of the top singers in Bollywood. With her two famous sisters Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle it was natural that singing would be the destiny of Usha Mageshkar. Usha Mangeshkar was born into the famous family of musicians, her father Dinanath Mangeshkar being a classical singer. Despite being a classical singer with a wonderful voice she kept herself out of limelight.. In addition her voice had a special quality which didn't allow her to do playback for others easily. Due to this, apart from a few chartbusters like "Sultana Sultana" from Tarana or "Mungda" from Inkaar, she did not make much use of her melodious voice.

She also liked to listen to the songs of her sister, Lata after coming to Mumbai. Usha Mangeshkar had learnt music from great classical masters like Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Ustad Amanat Ali Khan since she was so much attracted to classical music. She was also an exponent of classical dance before taking up singing as a profession. Her main reputation lies in recording a number of Marathi and Hindi soundtracks.

She came into the limelight as a playback singer after singing a few devotional songs for "Jai Santoshi Maa" in 1975. This eventually became an important blockbuster.

Facts about Usha Mangeshkar also reveal that she got the nomination for the best Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer because of her song "Main to Aarti" in the movie. She sang them again in remake of the movie in 2006. Though she was deeply influenced by the style of her elder sister, Lata her own style of singing was drastically different from her. She has also sang for the popular "bhabhi aayee" in "Subah Ka Tara". This song was picturised on the child Rajshree and was eventually a great hit. After this Usha Mangeshkar offered play back singing in a number of movies made for children. For instance she sang Aplam Chaplam for C. Ramchandra Azaad which is famous till date.

As one of the top singers in Bollywood, Usha Mangeshkar was getting a lot of work from Marathi films as well. Soon she became one of the most sought after singers in Marathi films. Despite this, she continued singing for Hindi films occasionally like the number "Mungda" which is still considered as dancetapper. Since she has also been a renowned devotional singer, she has continued to charm audiences with her music on every religious occasion in the country.
