S. P. Balasubramaniam is also known as Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam. He was a creative persona and a renowned Indian singer. He was born in the year 1946, in June 4th in Konetammapeta. The place is at Nellore district of the state of Andhra Pradesh. S. P. Balasubramaniam is the second son in his family and is well versed in Harikatha.

S. P. Balasubramaniam got himself trained from his very early years. He took to singing as a hobby during his childhood. He was interested in music from a very early life. S. P has learnt notations and become skilled at playing instruments such as harmonium and flute on his own. Despite his father's wishes of seeing his son as an engineer, Balasubramaniam pursued his knack of singing and won awards at many singing competitions. S.P Balasubramaniam enrolled himself in JNTU for AMIE course.

He was recognized as a good singer in annual, college functions where he used to perform in every function.

In 1964, a music competition was organized for amateur singers by Madras-based Telugu cultural organization. He was awarded the first prize and that this incident was a turning point in his life. S. P. Balasubramaniam's talent was recognized by music director SP Kodandapani. Then there was no looking back, he started receiving offers from Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam movies.

Singing is S. P. Balasubramaniam's passion, his excellent enthusiasm was displayed through his singing, acting, dubbing artist, music director and producer. He was initially recognized as a leader of light music troupe before he devoted his whole time to cinema. He worked with Anirutta, Ilaiyaraaja, Bhaskar and Gangai Amaran. All of them accompanied him in guitar, harmonium and other musical instruments.

S. P was conferred the Padma shri award by the President of India K. R Narayanan in the year 2001. he also received the title of Doctorate which was presented by the Governor of Andhra Pradesh in the year 1999. He sang is many different languages that include Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi. The films which made him a famous name in the Indian film industry include:

  • Shankarabharanam
All these films have taken him to the heights of success and S. P. Balasubramaniam received a number of state and national awards.
