Sonu Nigam is one of the top playback singers of Bollywood. This thirty five old singer was born in Faridabad situated in Haryana, India. He has sung for several super-hit Bollywood movies. Apart from singing for the Bollywood movies, Sonu Nigam has also released a gamut of Indian Pop albums. Most of his albums are hit.
At the age of three Sonu Nigam began to learn the art of singing. Sonu Nigam took his music lessons under ustad Maha Kanjar Naveed. As a teenager, he took part in numerous music competitions. He won most of the singing competitions. Sonu Nigam came to Mumbai with his father at the age of eighteen with the mission to start a music career. Sonu had to struggle a lot in the early years of his career in Mumbai. At that time, he mainly used to sing the songs of Mohammad Rafi. He also sung for the album series entitled "Rafi Ki Yaadein", a collection of the hit songs of Mohammed Rafi. He was also labeled as a "Rafi Clone".
As a playback singer, Sonu first sang for the film called "Janum". But unfortunately this film did not release officially. But it is in Gilshan Kumar's film called "Aaja Meri Jaan" that he got his break as a playback singer. After this, the song "Accha Sila Diya" became a hit. He sang this song for the album titled "Bewafa Sanam". "Bewafa Sanam", which released in 1995, established Sonu Nigam as a playback singer. Sonu began hosting the great music competition "Sa Re Ga Ma" in 1995. It is this show that gave Sonu Nigam tremendous popularity.
Sonu Nigam was selected for several awards for his performance as a singer. In 1997, he won the Sansui Viewers' Choice Award for his song "Sandese Aate Hai". He suing this song for the film called "Border". He also won another award for the same song in the same year. Sonu Nigam received the Star Screen Award as the Best Male Pop Artist. Other songs that brought him prestigious awards include "Tanhayee", "Suraj Hua Maddham", "Kal Ho Naa Ho", "Chanda Ki Doli", and "Dheere Jalna". In the year 2006, he also got the Bollywood Music and Fashion Awards for his performance as the best male playback singer. This received this award for the title track of film "Kabhi Alvida Na Kahena".
