Shaan

Shaan is counted amongst the most versatile and popular singers in Bollywood. The original name of Bollywood singer Shaan is Shantanu Mukherjee. He was born on September 30 in the year 1972. Shaan belongs to a Bengali family and is the son of Manas Mukherjee the late music director. His sister Sagarika is also a singer. He is married to Radhika and the couple has two sons - Soham and Shubh. Shaan is the grandson of Jahar Mukherjee.

Shaan had a flair for music from an early age itself. He used to sing for ad jingles in his early years of music career. After that he took a break and then again returned. He used to sing for remix songs and for cover versions. In the year 1989 he sang a singular line for the movie Parinda. Shaan's music career took off from the year 1995. This was the year when his first album was released. The album was called Q-funk and it was a remix album. Success followed with the release of this album.



In the year 2000 Shaan was honored with the MTV Asia Music Award in the 'best solo album' category. This was for his album Tanha Dil. After three years Shaan sang for another album which was called Aksar. This album also became a grand success. For this album, the singer had sung with several stars of international fame. These were Blue, Samira Said and Mel C. In both these albums called Tanha Dil and Aksar, Shaan proved his great talent as a singer. One important fact is also that that for these albums he was the music composer and even wrote the lyrics of the songs.

Shaan has further plans to release another album with his sister which will be a remake of his father's compositions. Besides singing for albums, Shaan has sung in a plenty pf Bollywood films as well. He song for the musical hits like Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai, Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi, Kal Ho Na Ho, Lakshya and Dil Chahta Hai. He also sang for the movies Hum Tum, Dus, Salaam Namaste, Dhoom, Don - The Chase Begins Again, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Fanaa.

He also played host in the music contest - Sa Re Ga Ma Pa which was aired on Zee TV. The show had won the Indian Telly Award in 2003 in the "Music Programme of the Year" category. In the year 2007 Shaan won the Indian Telly Award in the "Best TV Music Director" for the music creation of a Zee TV show called Lipstick. He also won the Filmfare Best Male Playback Award as well as the Zee Cine Award Best Playback Singer- Male for singing the title song of Fanaa.
