K. J. Yesudas is considered to be the living prodigy in the history of Indian classical music. He is one of the exceptional singers of Bollywood and has notable contribution to the Indian film industry. He has the rare flair of singing different songs in four different languages. He could sing mellifluously and is known to sing 50,000 songs. Indian music was transported to new heights through this common man. K. J. Kattassery Joseph Yesudas or Dr. K. J. Yesudas was also called Gana Gandharvan, He was born in the year 1940 in January 10th at Fort Kochi. His proud parents are Augustine Joseph and Elizabeth Joseph. Yesudas started showing his talents since his early childhood. He was trained under his father and gradually joined the Music Academy in Thrippunithura and won gold medal at age seven. K. J. Yesudas or Jesudas was trained under Chembai Vaidynatha Bhagavatar till the age of 34. Yesudas is also trained in Hindusthani music and that combined Carnatic music also.



K.J. Yesudas` enchanting voice was discovered by Salil Choudhury who brought him into playback singing. Yesudas received proper training from Ravindra Jain and sang 40,000 songs for Malayalm films. He started his career in playback singing and sang in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tulu, Russian, Arabic, Latin and English films through his long career.

His concert always attracted large audience and in his music concerts at Middle East he performs Arabic songs in Carnatic style. K.J Yesudas is the only singer who received the title of Asthana Gayaka or official singer of Kerala. He was awarded President`s Award in the year1973. Yesudas also received acknowledgement and he was given the Padmashree award, in 2002, he was awarded Padma Bhusan. He is the only singer who got 50 awards just only for his playback singing.

K.J Yesudas inherited music as a divine grace as well as paternal inheritance. His concerts and playback singing programs captured a millions of heart in India as well abroad. The exponent took lessons under musical wizards around Cochin that honed his talents. The singer was known for his discipline, dedication and determination. He progressed each day and achieved musical excellence. He was idol for the middle aged as well as the youngsters. K.J Yesudas `talent was recognized by All India Radio. He was also invited for concerts in every town and village of Kerala.
