Kavita Krishnamurti has sung songs for three generation of heroines starting from Nutan, Helen, Shabana, Sridevi, Madhuri, Manisha, Kajol, to Karishma, Aishwarya,Kareena and Rani Mukherjee. She was born in Delhi and received her music training by Sri Balram Puri at a very young age. Her musical talents were quite evident from a very young age when she won her first gold medal at a Music Competition. During the mid 60's she also won gold medals when she participated in the Inter-Ministry
Classical Competition in New Delhi.
She studied from St. Xavier's College, Bombay from where she obtained a degree in Economics. While in college,she performed a number of times with the legendary music director and singer Hemant Kumar, Mukesh and Manna Dey. She began her career as a playback singer in the year 1971. She recorded for a Bengali film song which was a duet with Lata Mangeshkar.
Her songs like "Maang Bharo Sajna" was her first Hindi song with the music dirctor Sri Laxmikant Pyarelal followed by the film "Pyar Jhukta Nahin".
