'Hum Rahen Ya Na Rahen Kal', the soulful rendition of this song brought him into limelight. The original name of K.K. is Krishna Kumar Menon and he was born on 23rd August in Trichur, Kerala. K.K. did his schooling from the Mt. Saint Mary in Delhi and during his school days he was known for singing which earned him accolades. According to K.K., the singers who have influence him include Pink Flyod, Sting, Billy Joel, Jethro Tull and Deep Purple. He was also the lead vocalist of three college bands.

After he completed his studies from the Kirori Mal College, K.K. decided to land up in Mumbai for becoming a singer. However, before that he did participate in lots of music competitions to make a ground for himself.

Though he desperately tried to get a break in the film circuit of Mumbai he was unsuccessful for years.

The first break came in the form of a jingle composed by Leslie Lewis for UTV. This started his career in the music world of Mumbai. His stint with singing jingles continued and he sang jingles for commercials of Monte Carlo, Asian Paints, TVS Scooty, Frooti, Coca Cola, Close Up, Britannia, Cinthol, Jumpin' and a lot more. K.K. is a famous name in the advertising world because he has over 3,500 jingles to his credit.

These jingles made him famous in the circuit of music much before the release of his albums. After the jingles came the opportunity of singing in the television serials and K.K. got the opportunity of singing in the serials like 'Hip Hip Hurray' and 'Just Mohabbat'.

K.K.'s strength lies in singing Indipop songs and he had a long time ambition of making it big in the world of Indipop. This dream of his became a reality when he cut his first album 'Pal'. The album was released by Sony Music and it is also different in a way since it was the first solo artist album released by Sony Music. The music of the album was composed by Leslie Lewis, a long time friend of K.K. and the lyrics were written by Mehboob. All the tracks of this album were sung by K.K.

K.K. also had the dream of singing for mainstream Bollywood films and this dream of his was fulfilled when he got the opportunity of singing 'Chhod Aaye Hum' in the film "Maachis". But the song that made him immensely popular was 'Tadap Tadap' from the film "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam". Success soon followed in the form of 'Awarapan Banjarapan in "Jism", 'O Humdum' in "Saathiya" and 'Gori Gori' in "Main Hoon Na".

All these songs and many more have made K.K. a renowned name in the field of music in Bollywood.
