Hema Sardesai is reckoned to be one of the popular singers in Bollywood. She was born in Mumbai in India. Her talent in singing was discovered by her uncle Gurudas Parrikar and her school teacher- Mrs. Sequiera. She sang for the first time on a stage before a large audience at the Navaratri Festival at the age of 8 years. She won every music contest held at the inter-state, national and international level from the age of 11 years. She sang in Marathi, Hindi and English. She is equally at ease with all the three languages. She was trained in light classical, Indian classical, western pop music, spiritual folk music and Hindi film music. She has been bestowed with the honor' Sangeet Visharad' in Indian classic music.

Hema Sardesai has performed on television. She has done music shows in various states in India. She has even done live stage shows in different countries of the world like U.S.A, Belgium, UK, Holland, New Zealand, West Indies, Yugoslavia, South America, Thailand and Nepal.



At the 16th International Pop Song Festival which was held in Germany in 1989 Hema Sardesai won the Grand Prix award. 'Choota Na Mera Saath was her first music video. She sang jingles for products like Ponds, Liril, Lipton, Melody Chocolates, Mango Frooty, Colgate and Action Shoes. Besides singing, she has also penned lyrics for music albums like ' Love Me' which won a Platinum Disc. The song which shot her to fame as a playback singer was the song ' Awaara Bhavaren' for the movie ' Sapnay' in the year 1997. The music of the film was composed by A.R.Rehman. The song was such a hit that it featured in the No 1 position for 12 weeks consecutively in all music countdown shows in both radio and television.

In the year 1997 Hema Sardesai was invited to sing at the 50th Independence celebrations held in Vijay Chowk in New Delhi before an audience of 3 lakh people. She shares this rare honor of performing at the Independence celebrations with only one Indian female singer- Lata Mangeskar. Hema Sardesai's first pop album' Hindustani Gudiya' released in the year 1998 earned her a nomination in the Channel V awards as the ' Best Indian Female Singer'. Then in the following year her music album ' Piya Se Milke Nain' released by Tips was awarded the ' best selling album'. In 2001 her third music album called 'Sajnaa' was released. This album was nominated in the Zee Music Awards as the 'Best Pop Album'.

Hema Sardesai has sung duets with Bollywood superstars like Amitabh Bachhan in the movie ' Baghban'; Sharukh Khan in 'Josh'; Naseeruddin Shah in the movie 'Asambhav'; Govinda for the film ' Hum Do Hmare Do'.
