Bhupen Hazarika is one among the popular singers in Bollywood. He hails from Assam, the north eastern part of India. He is considered to be a multi faced genius. He is a reputed poet, music composer, singer, actor, journalist, author and film-maker. Bhupen Hazarika has taken the Assamese film industry to newer heights. Bhupen Hazarika is a celebrated and leading film maker of the country. He is the living pioneer of Assam and has contributed to the cultural heritage of North East.
A number of documentary films have been directed by Bhupen Hazarika. The most important documentary is an Assamese film Emuthi Saular Kahini. The film was based on the co- operative movement for the Government of Assam. He contributed a half-hour documentary to Calcutta Doordarshan Kendra in 1977 on the folk songs and dances of north east India. In addition to that in the year 1981, Bhupen is known to produce and compose music for a documentary to promote tourism in Assam.
The versatile personality Bhupen Hazarika was born in 1926 in Sadiya, Assam. He was an extremely well-educated person who did his inter from Guwahati in 1942. In 1944 he completed his graduation from Banaras Hindu University and Masters in Political Science in 1946. After his post graduation, Bhupen Hazarika went to New York, for his doctorate in Mass Communication from Columbia University. He also received the Lisle Fellowship from Chicago University, USA and studied the use of educational project development through cinema.
Bhupen Hazarika is a reputed Bollywood Singer. He is known to produce and compose music for internationally famous feature films too. In 1986, Bhupen produced music for Ek Pal which is an award wining movie of its time. The film was directed by famous director Kalpana Lajmi starring Shabana Azmi, Nasiruddin Shah and Faroque Shaikh.
He also has accolades of producing and composing music for the popular television serial, Lohit Kinare in 1988. Bhupen Hazarika was acknowledged for award winning film Rudaali. Bhupen Hazarika started his career as a child actor in Indramalati. At the age of 10 he first composed and sang.
He is the only person in the past 40 years who propagated for a cinema movement and incorporated all the seven north-eastern states. Bhupen Hazarika is acknowledged for his flawless diction.
