Bollywood Home » Singers » Babul Supriyo
Babul Supriyo who is recognized one of the most popular singers in Bollywood was born in the city of Kolkata in India. This Indian playback singer shot to fame with his songs for the blockbuster Kaho Na Pyar Hai. He is a fan of ace singer Kumar Sanu and calls himself his clone in his style of singing. NC Boral who was a renowned composer in the Bengal music industry was his grandfather. In his earlier years, the singer had to take up a job in the Standard Chartered bank under pressure by his father who also worked in a bank.
Babul Supriyo had secured a Master's degree qualification before venturing out for his dreams. In the year 1991, he went to Mumbai with his dreams to try out his luck as a playback singer in the Bollywood film industry. He got his first break through Kalyanji (of composer duo - Kalyanji-Anandji). Soon he caught the attention of many other music composers and began getting many singing offers. Besides doing playback singing he also performed in several stage shows.
Babul Supriyo is married to Rhea and the couple has a daughter. The major breakthrough came in his singing carrier when he sang for Hrithik Roshan in the movie Kaho Na Pyar Hai. Overnight where the film made debudant Hrithik Roshan a star, Babul Supriyo emerged as the nation's new singing sensation. Soon he was flooded with offers and he did many music shows. Babul Supriyo came from family where music was given a lot of importance and many of the family members were related to music. His inspiration was his grandfather NC Boral who taught him the philosophy of music when he was a kid.
As a child he participated in numerous singing competitions. At the age of four he was winning awards for his wonderful voice and great singing. All these encouraged him to take singing more seriously. Babul Supriyo's ancestral home is in Uttarpada besides the Ganges. He used to take music training from his grandfather everyday in this house itself. Babul has sung several hit songs like Aati Hai To Chaal (Sat Rang Ke Sapne), Hata Saavan Ki Ghata, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke and KNPH. The real name of Bollywood singer Babul Supriyo is Supriyo Baral. His debut album "Sochta Hun...." was a major success. He has plans to work with top music directors like Jatin Lalit and Anu Malik. He also won the MTV Immies Awards in the year 2003.
