Anwar Malik who was later known as Anu Malik is the son of Sardar Malik. Although his first film was released in 1981 he did not get a good foothold in the film industry for many years. His first film was Poonam but later he worked in a number of other projects like Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, Sohni Mahiwahl, and films like Allah Rakha, Mujrim and Mard.

Anu Malik has tried his hand in many things including being a judge with a popular music show known as Indian Idol which is the Indianised version of American Idol.

Anu Malik is happily married and has two daughters. Anmol, the younger one has sung for her father in Umrao Jaan. This famous music director in Bollywood has been in the industry for 25 years and today he is known for some of his evergreen compositions.
