Anu Malik is one of the popular and successful music directors in Bollywood. He is not only known as successful music director but his brief stint as a singer has been equally impressive. This National award winning music director is also considered as one of the popular singers in Bollywood. He has a number of popular Hindi films in his kitty; the most remarkable is Refugee for which he received a National Award. His compositions have been used extensively in a number of cross-over projects like Monsoon Wedding and China Gate. He has also sung in a number of private albums and today his name is taken as one of the popular singers in Bollywood.
Anwar Malik who was later known as Anu Malik is the son of Sardar Malik. Although his first film was released in 1981 he did not get a good foothold in the film industry for many years. His first film was Poonam but later he worked in a number of other projects like Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, Sohni Mahiwahl, and films like Allah Rakha, Mujrim and Mard.
Amitabh Bacchan is part of most of the films directed by F.C. Mehra. Anu Malik is known as the composer of most of the films by this director.
Anu Malik calls himself a self-trained singer and music director. In spite of working in a number of Hindi blockbusters Anu Malik did not get his dues till 1993. It was then that he was widely appreciated for his music in a number of films like Baazigar, Sir, and Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Ayi. Apart from the recognition Anu Malik has also received his share of criticisms. He has been constantly accused of plagiarism. In 2001 there were a number of films which actually showed his versatility. Aks, Filhal, Fiza and Muche Kuch Kehna Hai are all different from each other.
Unlike many of his peers Anu Malik has always experimented with new singers, new lyricists so that there is a freshness in the songs that he is composing. Famous Bollywood singers like Sonu Nigaam and Kay Kay have got their breaks with Anu Malik. Anu Malik has two other siblings Abu and Daboo Malik who are also involved with films. Anu Malik has tried his hand in many things including being a judge with a popular music show known as Indian Idol which is the Indianised version of American Idol.
Anu Malik is happily married and has two daughters. Anmol, the younger one has sung for her father in Umrao Jaan. This famous music director in Bollywood has been in the industry for 25 years and today he is known for some of his evergreen compositions.
