Amit Kumar, who is one of the most talented and popular singers in Bollywood, was born on 3 July in the year 1952. He is an Indian film playback singer and is also an actor. Amit Kumar is the son of Kishore Kumar - the ace singer and actor. His mother is Ruma Guha Thakurta who is a famous Bengali actress. Amit Kumar has sung for many popular film songs of Bollywood which were released in the 1980s and the early 1990s. He is one of the leading playback singers in Bollywood and sung several songs for the then budding star Kumar Gaurav. This was in the 1980s.
Amit Kumar is also a talented actor. He acted in several films. These films were directed as well as starred by his late father Kishore Kumar. Some of his notable roles were in the movies Badhti Ka Naam Daadi (which was released in 1974) and Shabhash Daddy (which was released in 1979). Amit Kumar has sung in many musical concerts and toured different parts of the globe for singing.
He has sung his own hits as well as the hits of his father. His melodious voice has earned him the love and admiration from fans all over the world.
This Bollywood singer started his educational journey from Sunningdel. Then he went to Basant Montesary. For further studies he was admitted to the St.Xavier's school in Hazaribagh. There he studied for 6 months. He came to Kolkata and completed his education from South Point School and Patha Bhavan. He has got a singing style of his own and has sung many popular songs.
In 1970, Amit Kumar sang songs for a function which was organized by Uttam Kumar, a Bengali actor's family. He sang songs in the localities and this infuriated his mother. She called Kishore Kumar to complain against him but his father got more excited and encouraged him. He was sent to Mumbai when he was 18 years old. He performed in a special show with his father which was called 'Daddy Kishore and Sunny Amit together'.
The first Hindi song that the singer sang was called "Main Ek Panchhi Matwala Re" which was for the film 'Door Ka Rahi'. However, later the song was eliminated from the film for some technical reasons. He got the opportunity to sing for Swapan - Jagmohan in film called "Darwazaa", but the movie did not release. Then Amit Kumar sang for Salil Chowdhury in the movie "Zindegi Ek Zua" but it also got selved. After a series of such failures he was finally recognized with the song "Bade Achhe Lagte Hai" for the movie Balika Badhu.
