Abrar Alvi is one of the well known Bollywood screenwriters who had written stories and scripts for some of the most memorable films. He had a great association with Guru Dutt, another talented filmmaker. Abrar Alvi has written scripts for some of the greatest films of Guru Dutt. He was an integral part of the creative team of Guru Dutt and wrote some of the classics not only in India but world over.

Abrar Alvi, the sreenwriter won Filmfare Best Director Award for Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam in the year 1962. Sahib, Bibi Aur Ghulam is one of the greatest films ever made in Indian film industry. Director Abrar Alvi had written the script for this film which was produced by Guru Dutt. The film depicted a romantic and nostalgic tale of a bygone era. The rich dialogues, excellent cinematography, extra ordinary song picturizations and the brilliant performances by all the stars in the movie have made it a successful movie in the field of Indian cinema.



Apart from this immortal movie, he also wrote scripts and dialogues for other films of Guru Dutt like Aar-Paar, Mr. & Mrs. `55, Pyaasa and Kaagaz Ke Phool. He first met Guru Dutt on the sets of the film Baazi and impressed him with his creativity. All the movies in which he worked for Guru Dutt were biggest hits in the history of Indian cinema. Among all these films, Sahib, Bibi Aur Ghulam was the major breakthrough for his career. The film was honored by some prestigious awards like President`s Silver Medal and the `Film of the Year` Award from the Bengal Film Journalist Association. Berlin Film Festival was also proud to present the screening of the film in 1963. It was also nominated for Oscar.
