Yash Johar who is popularly called the 'Tom Uncle' is one of the legendary producers. Though he is no more the contribution of the world of India cinema is stilled remembered. Yash Johar was one of the most successful film producers who was almost a father figure to the film industry.
Yash Johar was the member of the Film Producers Guild of India. He was a great photographer and a genius who adapted himself to art of film making. He was the creator of the famous banner Dharma Production who gave the Indian cinema many good films. Some of the notable films that he produced are Kal Ho Naa Ho, Khabhi Kuhsi Khabhi Gham, Gumrah, Agneepath, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and a lot more.
He started his career with photography. With the passage of time he created some of the master pieces like Dostana' and 'Duniya Meri Jeb Mein'. He gradually rose to the peak of success with films like 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' and 'Jewel Thief'. The first film that he produced under the banner of the Dharma Production was 'Dostanna'. It starred great actors like Big B and Shatrughan Sinha. It was in this film where his son, Karan Johar, came to the limelight.
Yash Johar's great work won accolades in the Agnipath'. It is this film that brought Amitabh Bachchan his first National Award. In 1962 he worked for Sunil Dutt's production 'Mujhe Jeene Do'. He also worked with Navetan Films of Devanand.
Shahrukh Khan also had the pleasure of working with this legendary actor. Some of the great films that had the magic combination of this two prominent figures are 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' and 'Kal Ho Na Ho'. He is one of the geniuses who were apt in handling human emotions very intricately. His creation to the world would be remembered for years.
Yash Johar was also associated with many notable agencies like the Member of the Managing Committee of Film Producers Guild of India Ltd. He was also connected with the Treasurer of the Association of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers.
This legend passed away on June 26th, 2004. He was under medical observation in the Leelavati Hospital where he was fighting with cancer. The producer is known for his traditional values, passionate emotions, lavish sets and typical lifestyle of the locales. His films represented characters who belonged to varied class of the society.
