Story of Do Bigha Zameen

The story of Do Bigha Zameen revolves around a poor farmer, Shambhu, played by Balraj Sahni. In this movie, Shambhu gets badly hit by the infamous famine in Bengal. As a result, he takes loan from the Zamindar (land owner) of his village and unable to repay, comes to the city for some source of income. He wants to save his land from the clutches of the Zamindar.

In the city, Shambhu of Do Bigha Zameen becomes a rickshaw puller and tries hard to earn money even at the expense of his health. However, in the midst of extreme poverty also, he never loses his righteousness. This is the moral of the story. Shambhu's morality is the only thing that remains his own till the end.
