"Devdas" is one of the land-mark movies of Bollywood. The movie was released on July 12, 2002. This emotional, musical and romantic saga includes Shahrukh Khan as the lead character. The lead female characters have been played by Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit. The other casts of the film include Jackie Shroff, Kiron Kher, Smita Jaykar, Vijayendra Ghatge, Tiku Talsania, Milind Gunaji, Ananya, Dina Pathak and Vijay Crishna. Based on a popular novel written by Sarat chandra Chatterjee, "Devdas" is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, one of the most versatile directors which the Indian film industry can boast of.

The role of the male protagonist Devdas is magnificently played by Shah Rukh Khan while the role of female protagonist Parvati is played by Aishwarya Rai. Devdas and Parvati share close intimacy since their childhood. Their infatuation for each other is put to test when Devdas`s father sends him to England for his further studies. Parvati`s passionate love for Devdas makes her wait with a lighted diya. It signifies her passionate love for his beloved. Paro`s world is lighted as soon as Devdas returns. But the later development of the story deprives Devras of his love. He finally becomes alcoholic which consumes him marking his tragic death.
