The recent most version of Raaz released nationwide on 12th March 2002 is an overall gripping movie with intense touches of thrill, fantasy and horror. It is another one of the wonder mixtures produced by the Bhatt brothers dealing with a story written by Mahesh Bhatt and Girish Dhamija. Soon after its release, Raaz- the film directed by Vikram Bhatt was in vogue not only among the horror and the thriller enthusiasts, but also among the general public enjoying the general romantic charm of the Bollywood movies.

Throughout the movie you get to feel the subtle tension that slowly builds up when a couple Aditya, played by Dino Morea and Sanjana, played by Bipasha Basu go for an outing in Ooty. They are in vacation to bring back the warmth in their relationship that was getting cold in the daily monotony of life. The tension creeps in when they start to spend their vacation in refuge at a forsaken bungalow. The place is shown to be haunted by the spirit of a long dead girl who attracts Aditya in her spell.

The story in Raaz continues with the struggle between the evil spell of the spirit and the love of Sanjana for Aditya, who is seen to stand in between.

The movie appalls the audiences with the horror sequences depicting a cold fear of possession, when the spirit takes Aditya within her grip. The air of horror and thrill is carefully build by some of the songs in Raaz that are just perfect for the sequence settings. Some of the songs however, are great mismatches for the sequences where they are set, which is an old trend in the movies of Bhatt production.

The casting in Raaz is no doubt apt, with the confused innocence of apparently expressionless Dino Morea, torn in between the two forces- evil on one side and pure love on the other. The supporting performance of the powerful actor Asutosh Rana as Dr. Agni Swaroop, the exorcist, surpassed the performances of Dino and Bipasha with flying colors. The other characters in the movie are too insignificant to mark an impression, though they supported the the overall performance with substance.

Apart from a few wrong turns where the central theme of the movie is seen to be lost, Raaz proves to be an overall standard performance with a fairly good direction, cinematography and screenplay, being quite a popular movie of the recent times.
