If you are in the mood for watching a thriller movie with generous toppings of romance, you can go for Kasoor, produced and directed by the Bhatt brothers of Bollywood. Like all the other popular Bollywood thrillers, Kasoor was no different in presenting the story, launching its sequences and repeatedly cutting off the tensive grip with a series of songs, planned in romantic settings. The tone of universality that is seen to mar most of these Bollywood thrillers with unkempt romantic and comedy sequences is however, a bit less, in this movie.

Produced by Mukesh Bhatt and directed by Vikram Bhatt, the movie is quite entertaining with all possible commercial ingredients to make it appear appalling in front of the general public. Though the performance of both the key and the supporting actors in Kasoor were no doubt up to the standards, at times it was hard to keep track of the central theme in the movie.

Kasoor- the movie, is a thriller, with the central character Shekhar Saxena, played by Aftab Shivdasani, accused of murdering his wife and maidservant in a very cruel way.

A female lawyer Simran Bhargave, played by Lisa Ray, feels pity for Saxena, for no reason and tries to prove his innocence in the court. The film takes a turn when Simran, after saving him from capital punishment, suddenly feels the heat building up behind her back. She starts suspecting that Saxena is the real killer of his wife on whom she wrongly placed her trust.

The story in Kasoor is thus centered upon the eternal conflict between love and misgivings that culminates to a climax when Simran tries to defend herself from falling victim to Saxena's hands. As far as the thrill and the gripping suspense are concerned the film is a success, but even in the most grave situations there are romantic song sequences in outdoor settings cutting the continuity of the movie. The songs in Kasoor are by the way melodious with Nadeem Shravan in the musicals along with touching lyrics by Sameer.

The overall casting in Kasoor was appropriate for the mood of the movie, with Aftab Shivdasani showing appreciable performance in the leading role of the psycho killer. The performance of Lisa Ray was quite average though she tried hard to bring out the theme of the character. The character played by Asutosh Rana came up with such a matured acting and expression that it surpassed the other lead characters in the film.
