Gupt - The Hidden Truth was a Bollywood film that had raised a lot of hype and expectation before release of the film itself. A mega hit, Gupt - The Hidden Truth became one of the most popular films in the year 1997.

Gupt - The Hidden Truth tells the story of man completely against his step father. Sahil is a confident but angry young man who hates his step father. Sahil`s character is played by Booby Deol while his step father`s role is portrayed by Raj Babbar. Sahil goes out of his way to let his step father know about his dislike for him while at the same time thwarting any attempt by his step father to get close to him.

His hatred for his step fathers comes boiling over when Raj Babbar forcefully tries to get him engaged to Sheetal. The role of Sheetal is played by Manisha Koirala. Saahil was completely besotted with his childhood friend Isha played by Kajol and had planned to announce his decision to marry her at the party. In his blind rage he even tries to stab his step father in front of all the guests.



The story takes a new twist when the next day Saahil finds his step father stabbed to death in his office. He also finds a locket at the crime scene. Because of the incident in the party, all the guests including Saahil`s own mother testifies against him in court. Saahil is sentenced to a jail sentence and is sent off to prison.

Saahil however manages to flee from the prison and sets about finding the real killer and to clear the blame upon him. He is helped in his quest by Sheetal who still loves him and wants to help him in every possible way. But he faces a lot of problems as he is constantly under the threat of being caught by a rogue police officer Udham Singh, played by Om Puri.

As Saahil tries to unveil the mystery of his fathers death, one by one the people who had testified against him end up either dead or hurt badly. There is further confusion when Isha`s father confesses to the killings and is arrested by the police.

Saahil goes back to his house but cannot rest before he solves the mystery of the locket. At his house, Saahil manages to uncover the mystery of the locket and realizes that it is his beloved Isha that was the real killer. Saahil uncovers the truth from Isha`s father who confesses that he had taken the blame for the killings in an effort to save her daughter.

Saahil goes running to Sheetal`s house realizing that she is next on Isha`s list and manages to save Sheetal`s life. But Isha is shot and killed by the police inspector. Isha dies in Saahil`s arms. Before dying she confesses to him that she had killed everyone only to protect him. Saahil is left shattered by the loss of his true love.
