Released on July 13, 2001 Aks is made under the directions of Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra. The Amitabh Bachchan, Manoj Bajpai, Raveena Tandon, Nandita Das, K.K. Raina and Amol Palekar starrer is a story which is rooted deep within our culture. Because of its supernatural orientations the film appears very interesting and mysterious scene by scene. The film begins with its opening scene in Budapest with Mannu Verma (Amitabh Bachchan), as head of the National Security as the movie progresses further many incidents and events occur in the main plot.
The theme of this movie is entirely different and is excellent. Aks appears to be one of the unique films in Bollywood of its own kind. This supernatural thriller is a type of movie that focuses on the battle between good and the evil both represented in the same person Mannu Verma. Aks is a movie where the audiences need to keep their rational thoughts apart for few hours and be ready to accept that even impossible things can happen in another realm.
The plot of Aks appears very much like the Hollywood Flicks and is quite successful in this reagard. Though some scenes appear very strange leaving audiences confused.
After all it is a successful work by Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra. The way he has directed the movie is applaudable for a beginner. Sometime and some scenes appear very boring for either they are too stretched or appear to move very slowly. However, it is an excellent work of direction. There are two songs in the movie which could not make enough impact on the audience. The special effects are smartly used setting a new trend in Hindi Cinema. The dialogues are also very good and sound more impressive when delivered by such great stars as Amitabh Bachhan and others.
The performances are brilliantly done by the four leading casts. In the character of Mannu Verma Amitabh Bhachan has given one of the best performances of the year. The expressions are amazing and not only of Mr Bachhan but also of other stars. Technicalities are amazing and accurately used. The scenes are nicely pictured. The choreography is also very pleasant to see and Raveena Tandon and the foreign dance trope have done a brilliant job contributing towards the success of the movie. At the end Aks is an excellent movie of its type.
