The film starred Urmila Matondkar, Shabana Azmi, Diya Mirza, Rishi Kapoor and Arjun Rampal. Tehzeeb is a beautifully written Bollywood social movie.

Tehzeeb was produced by Paresh Talpade and written by Khalid Mohammed and Javed Siddiqui. Santosh Sivan is the cinematography for the film. The film was edited by A. Sreekar Prasad. Apart from director Khalid Mohammed is an Indian journalist, editor, film critic and screen writer. He is the son of the Hindi film actress Zubeidaa.

The storyline of Tehzeeb goes like Anwar and Rukhsana had been married for years. Rukhsana is a famous singer, who always cares for herself. After birth of their two daughters Tehzeeb and Nazeen, Anwaar commits suicide. Tahzeeb the elder daughter of Rukhsana suspected her mother to be the cause of his father's mysterious death.



Years later Tehzeeb married Salim, a writer, against her mother's wishes. Salim is a loving and caring person. He knows how to make worst conditions as good one. Tehzeeb takes her mentally challenged younger sister Nazeen under her custody. After five years Rukhsana decided to visit Tezheeb's place and also decided to live there with her two daughters. But tension arose between Tehzeeb and her mother. Rukhsana finally decided to leave them and went away. Salim makes Tehzeeb understand that both Rukhsana and Tehzeeb were correct at some points of views but Tehzeeb was wrong at some places. So Tehzeeb finally made her mind to apologies her mother but found her mother dead.

Shabana Azmi won the best actor in supporting role female from Zee Cine Award. Javed Akhtar was nominated for best lyricist in Zee Cine Awards. Shabana Azmi was also nominated for best supporting actress award at the Filmare.

Tehzeeb has six songs all were composed by award winning composer A.R. Rahman. Shaan, Asha Bhosle, Sukhwinder Singh, Sujata Bhattacharya and Anumpana did the play back singing for the film. T-Series marketed the audio rights of the film.

Tehzeeb is thus one of the beautifully made social movies in Bollywood.
