Director Basu Bhattacharya made this film on a very unconventional subject. The storyline of the movie is set in the rural society of Bihar. The story of the film is about a man named Heeraman who lived in the interiors of the rustic village of Bihar. He drove a bullock cart to earn his bread.



The film starts with Heeraman taking two consecutive promises during his hardship days. Then one day he meets an urban dancer named Hirabai with whom he falls in love. The story of the film revolves around the love of Heeraman and Hirabai. The director very skillfully presents the story to the audience, which made the movie very touching.

Music of Teesri kasam :

Loaded with sentiments that has been handled well by the director; the movie sets a new standard in the Indian film industry. Not only storyline, the music of the film is still considered as one of the best in the film industry. The songs of the movie have a beautiful rural essence that is loved by the audience. Some of the famous songs of Teesri kasam are chlat mushafir, paan khaye sayian hamar and sajanwa bairi ho gaye hamar. Music director Shankar-Jaikishan had weaved some magical melodies in this film.

The movie had bagged many awards, both national as well as international. The nomination for the Grad Prix was prestigious and the movie was nominated in the Moscow International Film Festival in 1967. On the national front, Teesri Kasam received the President's Gold Medal for being the Best Feature Film of the year.
