Just like other dyslexic children, this child, Ishaan Awasthi also faced difficulties in reading and reproducing the same. He was punished for his spelling errors and poor test performances. But, he was never rewarded for his paintings. In Indian context, academic performance is given more priority than creative skills. And, the plot of Taare Zameen Par gets complicated when Ishaan could not achieve the success which his so called brilliant elder brother could. But, no one bothered to find out the root of the problem till the temporary art teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumbh, another dyslexic persona is introduced in the film. The viewers are now hoping for some change. Ishaan's problem needs to be found out and then treated. Nikumbh tried his best to convince Ishaan's parents that he is absolutely a normal child. He just needs special care from his parents and teachers. But nothing helped. Nikumbh played the role of the savor.
Ishaan is a star on earth and he is as special as the other children on earth are. And so, he has got every right to be in a school for normal children. Nikumbh also redefined the concept of "normal children". Any child should be treated with love and care. And, if the child id facing any crisis, the parents and the teachers should stand by him or her. Taare Zameen Par also questions the necessity of becoming a successful academic person in life ahead. Aamir Khan has proved his point with references to other dyslexic personalities who have rocked the world like Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci and Agatha Christe. This goes not definitely signify that Ishaan would become one of them but the reference signifies that dyslexic child can overcome his or her difficulties in reading and writing if they get proper assistance. It also signifies that human beings can survive in the competitive world even if they are not engineers or doctors and the art teacher, Nikumbh is a fine example of that instance.
Taare Zameen Par is an eye opener for all the parents and teachers who scream at children without trying to understand their problems. We all should look up in a very different way and try to come out of our pre conceived notions that mentally handicapped children are no good to the society. If Rajan Damodar, the physically handicapped child can be in a normal school, Ishaan having some neurological problems can also be a student of the same school. They are friends and they sit together. Aamir Khan wants the viewers to realize that children form the core of human society irrespective of their difficulties and the nature of difficulties.
Taare Zameen Par is a well knit film with a very strong social message. The scenes that come up in the first half have been explained in the second half. Each and every scene has got layers of meaning and each one of them actually contribute to the development of the plot and characters. Nothing went wrong. Even the critics agree that this is a flawless movie. The songs composed by the trio, Shankar Ehsaan Loy also add to the progression of the plot. They are highly contextual. Aamir Khan depicted the creative frenzy of Ishaan and also his dyslexic tendencies through a combination of songs with visual effects and animation. The director has taken care of each and every detail of the characters. Enlighten your mind with Taare Zameen Par!
