Cast of Swades

The movie starred one of Bollywood's biggest stars, Shah Rukh Khan. He carries the movie on his shoulders ably supported by actors like Gayatri Joshi, Kishori Balal, Dayashankar Pandey and Rajesh Vivek. All the actors in the movie were appreciated for their brilliant portrayal of the characters in the movie. It is widely believed that Shah Rukh Khan gave one his best performances as an actor in the movie Swades.

Story of the movie

In the movie, Mohan Bhargava (Shah Rukh) is an NRI working with NASA as a Project Manager. He returns to his native land India in search of his nanny, Kaveriamma. Mohan wanted to take Kaveriamma with him to the US. He meets his nanny in a village that is grappling with plenty of problems. Mohan Bhargava meets Gita (Gayatri Joshi) in the village and falls in love with her. Swades is about the self realization process that Mohan Bhargava goes through during his visit to India.

Mixed Reviews

The critics absolutely loved the movie Swades and waxed eloquent about various facets related to the movie. Shah Rukh Khan was greatly appreciated for his understated performance in the film. Asutosh Gowariker established himself as one of the most talented Bollywood directors. But despite the critical acclaim, the movie was not able to make any waves at the box office. It failed to make any connections with the masses.

Social issues

Swades is one of the popular Bollywood social movies to have released in recent times. The movie talks about a host of social issues related to the country of India. From bias made on the basis of caste to electricity problems in rural India, the movie touches most of the social issues of the country. It also passes on the message of necessity of educating a girl child in India. Swades is a well made movie that sadly, could not do well at the box office.
