South Indian superstar Kamal Hasaan portrayed the role of Somu, the main protagonist. Sridevi the lead female actor played the role of Laxmi. Silk Smitha was cast as Soni and Leela Misra as Nanima. Ashalata played the role of Laxmi's mom, while Padma Chavan was cast as Madame. Arvind Deshpande portrayed the role of Laxmi's dad. Viju Khote played the role of Police inspector and Shreeram Lagoo was cast as Dr. Khandeparkar.

Production of Sadma

Sadma released in the year 1983 is rated by a number of film magazines as a must see movie. Apart from the brilliant acting performances the film was also quite popular due to its superb music. The dialog of the film is written by Sampooran Singh Gulzar. Balu Mahendra has done the screenplay of the flick. He was also the director of the film. Illayaraaja was the composer of the film's music.

About the film Sadma

Laxmi, a young lady loses her memory when she meets with an accident. Various circumstances led her in the hands of antisocial elements and she is sold into prostitution. Somu a teacher by profession, rescues her from the situation. He brings Laxmi to his house so that she can feel protected there. Several instances follow and Somu falls in love with Laxmi. After various instances Laxmi regains her memory but she could not recall any moment she had spent with Somu. Finally Laxmi leaves Somu's place and this eventually breaks his heart.

Sadma was a super hit film in 1983. the music was considered to be one of the ever best composed by Illayaraaja. Some of the songs that are still being remembered for their superb composition are 'Aye zindagi....', 'Surmayi ankhiyo me....' and 'O babua....'.
