Prahaar is a film made in Hindi language. The film was released in the year 1991. The movie deals with the social issue of corruption. It also dealt with apathy, greed and extortion. Prahaar further emphasized on the plight of a common man. The film was written by Nana Patekar. He has done it in a realistic way and has been very candid in his story telling technique. The dialogues were plain and coarse. Nana Patekar wanted the film to be as real as possible, so he did not allow the actors and actresses to wear makeup.

Synopsis of Prahar: The Final Attack:
Prahaar opens with Peter D'Souza. He wishes to join the Commando wing of the Indian Army. But his whole family is apprehensive about it and his father wants him to run the small bakery in Mumbai. Sirley, his fiancée wants to settle down as soon as possible. However, Kiran, his neighbor, feels that if Peter really wants to join the Indian Army, he should go. Ultimately Peter packs off for the commando training.

Then the film focused on Major Chauhan. He scans each candidate thoroughly and mentions that the commando training is not for those who are weak at hearts. In the next 35 days, the cadets undergo serious training to become daring soldiers.

They are trained to shoot, fight and work in a team. The cadets also learn to apply prudence and take responsibility for their work.

Major Chauhan, in the mean time, became popular with the unit and the cadets respected him. The training transformed Peter and he became the top student of the class. Then the whole unit faced a challenging situation in a party. A school bus hijacked by a terrorist group. They demanded the release of their team member. Major Chauhan selects few cadets for the mission, which was successfully accomplished. But Peter was injured and he became physically disabled and returns to his family.

The second part of the story begins when Major Chauhan arrives to attend Perter's marriage. But to his utter shock, he realizes that Peter has been killed by some local criminal. He then started investigating and unravels many socio-economic problems. No one was willing to speak against the criminals and this angered Major Chauhan. He kills them and was accused of murder. During the trail session of the court, he gives a landmark speech and tries to defend himself. The court partly agrees to his point of view but sends him to a mental asylum. Th movie ends with a sequence where Major Chauhan is offering military training to hundreds of children.

Star cast of Prahaar:
The role of Major Chauhan was played by Nana Patekar. Madhuri Dixit and Dimple Kapadia played the characters of Shirley and Kiran.

Prahaar was directed by Nana Patekar and Sudhakar Bokade produced the film. The music of the film was scored by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
