Halla Bol is a film directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi. It is one of the popular Bollywood Social Movies of our times which had a moderate success in the box office. Before Halla Bol, Raj Kumar Santoshi directed `The Legend of Bhagat Singh` and `Khakee`.

It is one of the films which were released on January, 2008. The film stars Ajay Devgan, Vidya Balan, Sukhwinder Singh and Pankaj Kapoor. There are also many actors who appeared in guest roles. It is one of the films produced by Samee Siddiqui. The sound track of the film is composed by Sukhwinder Singh. While Steven Bernard is the editor, Nataraja Subramanian is the cinematographer.

The story shows Ashfaque as a town boy who dreams to be become a successful Bollywood star. Ajay Devgan played the role of Ashfaque. To make his dream come true, he joins the theater group which is headed by Pankaj Kapoor.

He plays the role of a famous dacoit called Sidhu. He uses theaters as his medium to raise social issues and thereby awaken the mass about such issues. Sidhu tries to help out the actor so that he can fulfill his dreams.

Later with the passage of time, he becomes one of the great actors of his time. He gets a new name in Bollywood where people know him by the name of Sameer Khan. He becomes of the most successful actor of the industry within a very short time.

But in the due course of time, he looses his identity. He gradually forgets his self and is carried away by the material world. Gradually he becomes alienated from his wife Sneha. Vidya Balan plays the role of Sheha, Sameer`s wife. He is seen in a pitiable state where he inner self continues fight with the super star Sameer. At the end of the film he is able to rise above the evil where the goons are punished.

It is one of the more recent films that deal with social issues. It throws light on many important aspects like Aamir`s involvement in the Narmada Bachao Andolan and the Jessica Lall murder case. The movie also includes other social issues like Right to Information Act. The film also draws its inspiration from the death of the theater activist Safdar Hashmi. He was the leader of the theater group `Jan Natya Manch` and was killed by the political goons. He was killed while the group was performing a street show `Halla Bol` in the year 1989.
