Sachin Dev Burman, one of the most popular music directors produced by Bollywood, was also an integral part of the movie. Fali Mistry worked in the capacity of a cinematographer for the movie Guide. Vijay Anand and Babu Sheikh jointly did the editing for the movie.

Story of the movie

The story of Guide is one of the major strengths of the movie. Raju (Dev Anand) is a guide who meets Rosie (Waheeda Rehmann), the wife of an archaeologist. She is not at all happy with her married life and eventually falls in love with Raju. He induces Rosie to leave her husband and begin a new life with him. Rosie does exactly that and soon she realizes her potential as a dancer with encouragement and support from Raju.

But unfortunately, the fame and popularity of Rosie lead Raju, the guide to fall into bad ways and he loses himself in the bad world of gambling and theft. Raju's illegal activities land him in jail where he serves a 6 year term. After serving his term, he moves to a village where the people treat him as a saint and start to revere him. The blind belief of the villagers makes Raju to go on a fast so that the rain gods may be pleased and bless the village with abundant rain.

Social issues

The movie of Guide, is one of the most critically acclaimed film to have been released by Bollywood. It touches upon various social issues relevant to the country of India. It talks about women empowerment and also the right of a woman to live with a person she loves. It also shows the dependence of the Indian farmers on the rains for their agricultural produce. All these factors contribute to the popularity of the movie as one of the Bollywood social movies.
