Dharavi is one of the most reputed Bellwood movies. Directed and written by Sudhir Mishra, it is also one of the highly acclaimed Bollywood social movies. Realeased in 1991,Dharavi was the joint production of NFDC- Doordarshan. Set against the backdrop of the one of the largest slums of the world the film features the quest of a slum dweller for better life. Dharavi also depicts the lives in this world famous slum.

The story of Dharavi goes that Raj Karan Yadav is a taxi driver whose sole means of livelihood is driving the taxi. He is the chief character of the film. He lives in a single room with his wife. The film depicts the daily struggles of the chief character to carve better life. He planned and subsequently invested his money in some wrong plans in order to make money which made him focused under the eye of the politicians and the target of the hooligans and the police. The story features the struggle of the man against the odds.

Produced by Ravi Malik, Dharavi features the celebrated film personalities of Bollywood like Om Puri as the taxi driver and Shabana Azmi as his wife. Music is given by Rajat Dholakia while cinematography is done by Rajesh Joshi and the editing by Renu Saluja. The running time of the movie is 120 min while the language is Hindi..



Dharavi occupies an important position among Indian films by dint of the performances of the actors and actresses. The acting in the role of the couple by Om Puri and Shabana Azmi are superb. It also received 1992 National Film Award for Best Music Direction and 1992 National Film Award for Best Editing. The awards are bagged by Rajat Dholakia and Renu Saluja r4espectively.
