Released in the year 1983, Ardh Satya is one of the must see Bollywood social movies. It is considered by many as a landmark movie in entire Bollywood and carved out a place for itself at the time it was released. Ardh Satya portrayed the picture of contemporary India ; its social evils, politician- criminal nexus and the frustrations of the honest people.
The story of Ardh Satya revolves round the corruption which grips the social structure of contemporary India. The story also focuses on the mafia raj. The story highlights the frustration of Anant Velankar who is the son of a violent policeman and is sub inspector of police himself. He tries hard to arrest the Rama Shetty the notorious gangster but is obstructed by politician Ram Shetty. He is also constantly puzzled by the mafia - politician nexus.
What contributed to the immense success of the film is not only the strong plot of the film but the superb cinematography and the excellent performances of the actors and the actresses.
The character of Anant portrays the frustration of the honest policeman of the times. Young people could easily indentify themselves with the charter of Anant which made it a grand success. In spite of lacking the scenes of music and dance which were common in almost all the Bollywood movies, the film received wide applause in the hall packed with audiences. It ranks among the all time popular Bollywood social movies.
Ardh Satya was directed by famous director Govind Nihalani while its screenplay is composed by Vijay Tendulkar. Leading actors of Bollywood like Om Puri, Amrish Puri, Naseerudin Shah, Smita Patil, Sadashiv Amrapurkar played the role of the major characters of the film. Cinematography is also done by Govind Nihalani himself. Music is composed by Ajith Varman. The language of the film is in Hindi. The film is well known for its music, direction, screen play, editing as well as acting.
